The Hartigans series
Butterface
by Avery Flynn
Poor Gina Luca earned the hated nickname, Butterface in high school. Why? Her body’s okay, “but her face…?” While Gina has (mostly) put those high school taunts behind her, she’s still taken aback when she’s thrown together on a wedding Kiss Cam with Ford Hartigan, a super hottie. The kiss is hot, far hotter than she expects.
But Gina suspects that Ford’s interest in her has more to do with her mob-connected brothers than anything else. Can Ford prove he’s interested in Gina and is just as attracted to her as she is to him?
The Hartigans series feature strong women characters who are refreshingly atypical romance heroines.
Series: The Hartigans, Book 1
Themes: Unusual heroine
Steam level: Hot, heavy sexual language used
Muffintop
Lucy Kavanaugh is a big, beautiful, and successful woman. She’s a PR guru and in demand for her services. That doesn’t matter when a concern troll interrupts her solo meal, tells her should be eating a salad, and tells her she’s a “five,” even though she’s fat, because of her fantastic rack, . Yes, really.
Frankie Hartigan jumps to her rescue, not that she needs it. He’s reeling from his own recent discovery – that he’s merely a “good time” to many women and definitely not boyfriend material.
Due to a series of events, Frankie ends up accompanying Lucy on her road trip to go to her high school reunion. Frankie and Lucy discover an attraction that envelopes them, keeping them in their own little travel cocoon. Can it survive when they return to their real lives?
This book was filled with awesome descriptions of larger than the usual romantic lead Lucy and her fiery love life. Ms. Flynn is skilled at bringing people and their relationships to the page. I was captivated on the journey to happily ever after.
Series: The Hartigans, Book 2
Themes: Unusual heroine, Big, beautiful woman
Steam level: Hot, heavy sexual language used
Tomboy
by Avery Flynn
Zach Blackburn is the most hated hockey player in Harbor City. Fallon Hartigan’s best friend, Lucy, a PR Goddess, begs Fallon for a favor. Lucy asks Fallon to put her nursing degree to good use (as if she doesn’t already with her job at the local hospital) and check on Zach during his bout of flu.
The paparazzi catches Fallon leaving Zach’s place and rumors start swirling. Fallon earns the nickname Lady Luck and Zach begs her to come to every home game. Fallon reluctantly agrees, in exchange for his presence during a fundraiser for her beloved clinic.
Sparks fly between Fallon and Zach. Can they survive through to their own happy ever after?
As usual, Avery Flynn delivers on the third book the The Hartigans series.
Series: The Hartigans, Book 3
Themes: Unusual heroine,

The Ice Knights series
Parental Guidance
by Avery Flynn
Caleb Stuckey thought his PR nightmare couldn’t get any worse, until his mom walked into the room. The PR stunt she proposes, to use a dating app that allows her to choose her son’s date and then go on TV together to talk about it, is so ridiculous. Caleb’s eyes nearly pop out of his head when his PR manager, Lucy Kavanaugh (featured in the book Muffintop, above), okays it.
Zara Ambrose has a loving father. A loving father who is always helping out others or investing in some scheme that never bears fruit, or money. Her childhood was precarious and she ended up taking over the bills at a young age. This uncertainty is why she’s a workaholic and doesn’t take time to date. She ends up creating a profile and agreeing to go on 5 dates with one person… and then to go on TV with her father to talk about those dates.
Zara and Caleb agree to 5 dates and 5 dates only – to appease their respective situations. When sparks fly, can these two move beyond the expectations of others and be true to themselves?
Avery Flynn has delivered another hot story with a sexy leading man (pro-athlete anyone?) Each character has depth and growth and the stories are very satisfying. Caleb even has secrets of his own that make him vulnerable and even more appealing than his muscular body. I’m in love with the Ice Knights series even more than the Hartigans series.
Series: The Ice Knights, Book 1
Themes: Pro-athlete, Fake dating
Steam level: Hot, heavy sexual language used
Awk-weird
Cole Phillips has been in love with Marti Peppers for as long as he can remember. She’s been a constant in his chaotic life. Nearly as long, they’ve been on-again-off-again. Though, this time, the break-up is longer. Cole isn’t giving up hope.
Tess Gardner, our awkward and oh-so-relatable heroine, can’t help but awkwardly say the answers in a trivia contest that’s she’s not even playing. But Cole Phillips sees her standing off to the side at the wedding and can’t believe she’s answered all the questions correctly. He proposes she join their game… and it leads to a one-night stand.
Until Tess discovers that she’s pregnant with Cole’s baby.
This book blows other surprise pregnancy books out of the water. Tess is so brilliantly awk-weird and adorable. Cole is absolutely dreamy. We want them to win – on the ice and off!
Series: The Ice Knights, Book 2
Themes: Surprise pregnancy

Loud Mouth
by Avery Flynn
Shelby Blanton loves hockey. She loves it so much that she has a blog dedicated to the Ice Knights professional hockey team. However, she blabbed a secret about Ian Petrov… something he didn’t know and yes, he’s holding it against her.
Ian Petrov just needs some R&R. His life was turned upside down when he found out that Alex Christensen, his best friend and Ice Knights teammate, was actually his secret half brother. And Alex knew and never told him. Even so, Shelby Blanton was at the top of his crap-list. So when he arrives at his remote cabin to escape the headlines and finds Shelby already there, he isn’t just going to let it go… especially with the snow falling and trapping them together!
I couldn’t resist buying this book when it came out. It delivered the promises that I’d hoped to read and came through with plot twists that took me by surprise. I loved this and I really hope Avery Flynn writes more about the Ice Knights hockey team!
Series: The Ice Knights, Book 3
Themes: Snowed in together
Steam level: Hot, heavy sexual language used
Harbor City
The Negotiator
by Avery Flynn
Sawyer Carlyle is looking for a “buffer.” He needs someone to save him from his mother’s matchmaking schemes. Enter Clover Lee. Clover’s background is unconventional and she’s totally opposed to love and marriage. After she sends his mother away, he hires her on the spot. Suddenly, Clover and Sawyer are fake-engaged and Clover moves in to his apartment.
Though they fight their attraction to each other, they are both falling in love. Can they put their pasts behind them and come together?
I do love the fake fiance and fake marriage sub genres, so this book appealed to me. Clover was delightfully eccentric and obviously perfect for our handsome leading man. I really enjoyed this story and that it was set in the now familiar Harbor City.
The Harbor City series has two more books, but I haven’t read them yet to make a review.
Series: Harbor City, Book 1
Themes: Fake fiance, Billionaire boss
Steam level: Hot, heavy sexual language used
